Is Your Upline Lifting You Up?

A common term in multilevel or network marketing is your upline. Who is your upline?  Your immediate upline is the person that broughtyou the opportunity and signed you up with the company.  You upline isalso the person that signed them up and so on until you get to the verytop of the company.  The person that brought you into the company canbe very instrumental to your future success.  Your access to peoplehigher up in the upline can also be a determining factor for yourfuture success.  What can you expect from you upline?

Your immediate upline (the person that signed you up), should beaccessible.  They may not have been in the company very longthemselves, so it is not always reasonable to expect them to knoweverything about the company.  They should, however, either be willingto find the answer or be able to get in touch with someone further upthe line that does know.

You should be provided with the names of thepeople at least three levels above you if you ask.  These three shouldalso be accessible.  There is a chain of command and generally youshould start with your immediate upline.  If, however, your immediateupline is not available, or you have an issue that involves yourimmediate upline, you should be able to contact someone higher up.

Most successful MLM uplines would agree that oneof the keys to everyone being successful is working as a team.  Uplinescan control a lot of things about how their organization grows.  Makesure you upline is extremely knowledgeable about the compensation planand knows how to exploit to everyone’s benefit.  (Again, the personthat brought you into the business may or may not be the driving forcebehind the team since they may not have been in the business that longthemselves.)

Your upline should also make sure you are aware ofall the training opportunities. These opportunities may be availablefrom the company in general or they may be specific to your team. 

Different people have different goals andtimelines.  Your upline should help you set your individual goals andthen help you get there.  Goal setting (and achieving) is extremelyimportant for your individual success and a good upline will help keepyou on track.

Don’t underestimate the importance of access to aknowledgeable and accessible upline.  This is especially true if youhave never been in business for yourself and are not familiar withnetwork marketing.  Before you sign up, ask about the upline and ifpossible talk with a few of them.  If they are worth working with, theywill be happy to talk with you.
